Q: When should my child start Catechism?
A: It’s a good thing to have them start from Preschool. It helps them learn prayers and faith.
Q: How many years of study for a sacrament?
A: For each sacrament it is two years.
Q: When do they start studying for their First holy communion?
A: A child starts studying in the First (1st) grade. We go by what grade the child is in their regular school.
Q: When so they start studying for Confirmation?
A: Studies for Confirmation start in the Eighth (8Th) grade. We go by what grade the child is in their regular school.
Q: What are the requirements for my child to receive a sacrament?
A: For each sacrament there are different requirements.
1. Baptism
a. It is preferred that the parents are married in the Catholic church
b. The Godparents, if they are married, MUST be married in the Catholic Church.
c. Godparents must be Catholic and have received all their sacraments.
d. Both Parents and Godparents must attend a class.
2. First Holy Communion
a. The child must be baptized in the Catholic Church
b. Have had two (2) consecutive years of Catechism.
c. Must know their prayers.
d. Must have done their First Reconciliation.
3. Confirmation
a. Must be Baptized
b. Must have received their First Holy Communion
c. Must have had two (2) consecutive years of Catechism
d. Must be in at least Ninth Eighth (9th) grade
e. Confirmation Candidates choose a sponsor (Godparent)
f. Have passed their test that are given in CCD studies
g. Pass their prayers
h. Worked 20 community service hours
i. Sponsor (Godparent) must meet the same requirements as baptismal Godparents
Q: Quinceañera what is needed?
A: To have a special mass for your daughter on this special day. She must have received or in her last year of studies to receive her Confirmation.
Q: How do you know if our child has gone to mass?
A: We give each child their own box of envelopes so they may turn in with the collection basket. This tracks their mass attendance. We ask that the children go every week to Saturday or SUNDAY mass to help them learn how to act and what to do in mass. Most importantly we are helping you help them keep the faith.
